Monetizing your site or blog with Google AdSense is a great way to help generate extra revenue online; It is a lot easier to set up than it may appear at first. Follow the steps bellow to get your Adsense code generated
Step1 Log into your Google AdSense account
Step2 Go to the "AdSense Setup" tab in your account profile. It is the middle tab at the top.
Step3 You will be taken to an "AdSense Setup" screen that list the available Google AdSense ads that you can create. The most common items you will find on the page are:
AdSense for ContentDisplay ads that are targeted to your site's content or audience.
AdSense for Search Improved!Offer your users site search or web search while earning revenue from ads relevant to their search terms.
AdSense for FeedsPlace relevant ads in feeds that Google manages for you.
AdSense for DomainsDisplay ads on your parked domains.
Step4 We will be choosing the first ad unit option to help you get started setting up your ads. Go ahead and click on the "AdSense for Content" link. This will then take you to the next page where we will chosse the type of ad unit.
Step5 You will now see two options for the type of "AdSense for Content" ad that you want to create. These options will be "Ad Unit" or "Link Unit". I recommend that you select the "Ad Unit" radial button, and that you also keep the default ad type in the drop-down selection as "Text and Image ads". You can take a look in the drop-down box for other types of ads that you can serve on your site, but the image and text perform the best overall and give advertisers more content to serve up. So stick with this. Go ahead and click "Continue" at the bottom of the screen.
Step6 Excellent Alright, so now we are taken to a page called "Choose Ad Format and Color". Here is where you will be selecting the size and shape of the ad that you will integrate into your site, as well as matching the ads color to your site layout. If you want to get an idea for where Google gets all of the ad sizes and shapes from - check out my link in the resources section that shows you the Internet Advertising Bureau standards. This will help you with your site design as well.
Step7 Start out in the drop down box next to the word "Format" on the screen. There are a lot of different sizes available for your site, and you can choose as many as you like for your site, but it is important to pick the ads that will best fit in with your sites layout and design. It is also important to remember that the best performing ad unit sizes are:
300x250 medium rectangle
728x90 leaderboard
160x600 skyscraper
I recommend that you select one of these ads for your first Google AdSense ad. Choose its size in the drop-down box.
Step8 Next go to the "Color" section and use the color palette to try and match the ad color to best match your site. You can preview your ad by clicking on the "Preview this AdSense unit" link. You can also even select the corners that the border of your ad unit will have if you do not want it to be contained in a box. You can round the corners slightly or a lot by using the "Corner Styles" drop-down box. Go ahead and click "Continue" at the bottom of the page.
Step9 Now you will be taken to the "Choose Ad Channels" page where you can customize the channels that your ad will serve. This is a little more advanced, and I will discuss this in another article, so you can skip this for now. Don't worry, your site will still serve up ads, and generate revenue for you without this for now. Click the "Continue" button at the bottom of the page to move on.
Step10 So now you will be taken to a screen that says "Save and Get Ad Code". Here is where you can modify the ad unit name, and get your HTML code to copy and paste into your site or blog. Personally, I keep the ad unit size, and just add the site name so that I know what ads are running where. No click the "Submit and Get Code" button on the bottom of the screen.
Step11 When you click this button, you will be taken to the very last page of the process. This page takes you to a screen that has the HTML code for you to put onto your site. Simply copy this code into your word pad or text editor, and then open up your website or blog HTML editing tools and paste it into the body of your site, where you want it to go. If you are using a blog site hosted on blogger.com, then you will just past this code into a "HTML/Javascript" gadget.
Step12 Congratulations! You are finished. Refresh your site and check out your ad!
Tips & Warnings!
>Remember to include all of the relevant site keywords you can think of into your HTML meta tag keyword section, and to also include keywords in the content areas of your site. These keywords will be used by Google crawlers to serve ads on your site that are appropriate to your content. This is important because as people read your content, they will also get ads that might interest them. You do not want to have a woodworking site displaying ads about nightgowns and Vegas gambling. The ads need to be relevant to your site content.
>Be Patient - it might take a long time to start getting any ad clicks, and the money earned will be very small at first.
>DO NOT CLICK ON YOUR OWN ADS
>DO NOT PERSUADE OTHERS TO CLICK ON YOU ADS
If caught doing any of the two last “Don’ts”, your account will be canceled and all your earned money and time will be wasted.
